He was born in 1966 to Jacqueline Golden and Travis Slay. Matt attended the University of Alabama at Birmingham and received his B.S. in mechanical engineering. He was the owner and operator of Jordan Machine Company. Matt married the love of his life, Sharon Gomez, on August 1, 1987, at First Baptist Church of Grayson Valley. He had a passion for cars and enjoyed driving his 1990 Porsche 944 at Barber Motorsports as often as possible. Matt and his wife, along with their sons were members of Briarwood Presbyterian Church, where Matt served as a Deacon.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Sharon Gomez Slay; his two adoring sons, Parker Christian Slay and Patrick Samuel Slay; his parents, Jacqueline Golden; and Travis (Pam) Slay; and his brother, Mark Slay.
A private graveside service will be held at Southern Heritage Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at Briarwood Presbyterian Church on Thursday, October 14, 2021, at 11:00 am with family receiving friends beginning at 10:15 am.
