Lucinda was known for her big laugh, strong opinions, and her willingness to help friends. She enjoyed hosting gatherings and cooking for the people she cared about, filling her home with conversation and fun.
She attended Helena Elementary School and Thompson High School. She later earned her nursing degree from Pearl River Community College and worked as a registered nurse at St. Vincent’s East until her retirement.
Lucinda was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret and John Reginald Martin, and her siblings, Reginald Martin and Iris Helen Mills. She is survived by her sister, Mary Margaret Wade; her two children, Michael Petty (Elizabeth Ghareeb) and JuLeigh Petty (Sam Knight); her grandchildren, Sam and Luc Coleman; her step-grandchild, Magnolia Knight; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and loving friends who were an important part of her life.
She will be remembered for her laughter, her candor, and the care she showed to those she loved. An animal lover, Lucinda was devoted to her standard poodles. She loved a party and took particular pleasure in setting a table with her extensive collection of linens and tableware. She enjoyed coffee at any time of the day and always kept a well-provisioned coffee station for herself and anyone who stopped by.
The memorial will include a visitation followed by an open time to share stories and memories of Lucinda. This gathering reflects her wishes and is intended as a celebration of her life. Guests are invited to wear floral patterns or bold prints in honor of a woman who was truly one of a kind.
Instead of flowers, donations to Dreamscape Inc. Rescue are welcome.
