

Margaret was born on February 23, 1920, in Helena, Alabama, the daughter of the late Tom and Louise Nash. She was a graduate of Thompson High School and studied at Auburn University, majoring in Home Economics. While attending Auburn Margaret served as president of her sorority (Delta Zeta), treasurer of the Auburn Home Economics Club, and treasurer of the Panhellenic Council.
Margaret was affectionately known throughout her life as “Baby,” a nickname from childhood. She was an exceptional gardener and served as a founding member of the Cahaba Garden Club and was a long time member of the Navajo Garden Club in Alabaster. She will be fondly remembered for her other passions in life, which were cooking for her family, quilting, knitting, hosting bridge at her house, and Auburn football.
Her husband, John Allen Montgomery, preceded Margaret in death. Following his death, she assumed the role of manager of the family pharmacy in Alabaster, Nash-Rexall Drugs.
Margaret is survived by her three children, Allen (Cele) Montgomery, Becky Longworth, and Ann Montgomery; four grandchildren, Leslie (Matt) Murr, Chris Longworth, John (Laura) Montgomery III, and Julia Montgomery; as well as four great grandchildren.
Services will be held Saturday May 6, 2017, at Helena United Methodist Church. Visitation with the family will be from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. The funeral service will begin at 3:00 p.m. with burial to follow at Helena Cemetery.
