

SCOTT, CLYDE MARTIN (Marty), age 61, of Pelham, Alabama passed away Monday morning, June 21, 2010. A U.S. Marine Corp veteran, he was wounded in action during the Vietnam War and received the Purple Heart medal.
Marty graduated from Moss Point High School in Mississippi before earning his undergraduate and master degrees at Southern Miss University. He taught history at Jackson State Community College in Gautier, Mississippi, and later in the Aldine Schools System in Houston, Texas.
Retired from teaching, Marty moved to the Birmingham, Alabama area to be with his high school sweetheart and bride, the former Dianne Barlow, after their 2002 wedding. He often volunteered at their family business, Sunshine Manor adult day health, served as a substitute teacher in the Shelby County Schools System, and helped to coordinate voter registration.
Marty was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde Monroe Scott and Loyce Jean Cudd Scott.
In addition to Marty's wife, Dianne, survivors include one son, Geoffrey Sean Scott and his wife Brandy Anne Scott; one daughter, Tracy Llewelyn Scott Copeland and her husband Clay D. Copeland; one step-son, Brandon A. Horton and his wife Jeannie Horton; one step-daughter, Kim Powell and her husband Lee Powell; six grandchildren, Colby “Trey” Copeland, Madison Layne Copeland, Kayden Powell, Kamryn Powell, Jace Powell, and Adam Edwards; one brother, Jeffery Mark Scott and his wife Lean Scott; two sisters, Leslie Claire Scott, and Jamie Leigh Wilburn and her husband Bill Wilburn; nieces; and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham. The funeral service will be at 12 noon on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at Southern Heritage, Pelham. Burial will follow in Southern Heritage Cemetery, Pelham. Rev. Mark Sims will officiate.
