

Born on April 24, 1919, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She lived most of her life in Birmingham, Alabama. After graduating from West End High School, Mrs. Vann attended the University of Montevallo where she earned a degree in Art Education 1940. She continued her education at the University of Alabama at Birmingham receiving a Masters Degree in Art Education.
After her graduation from the University of Montevallo, Mrs. Vann returned to Birmingham and joined Brooke Hill School as an art teacher. She later served as head of the Art Department at Mountain Brook High School.
Mrs. Vann was a longtime member of The Village Painters and was a contributing member of the Artists Incorporated Gallery in Vestavia, Alabama. Mrs. Vann was a longtime member of Canterbury United Methodist Church in Mountain Brook, Alabama where she served on the Altar and Flower Guilds.
She was preceded in death by her parents, I. E. Diamond, and Veda Diamond; her husband, Fred Ellis Vann; and her grandson, Fred Ellis Vann Whitt. She is survived by three daughters, Melinda Vann Whitt of Birmingham, Alabama, Ellen Vann Rodgers of Gulf Shores, Alabama, and Gail Vann Venters of Miami, Florida; eight grandchildren, Trey Whitt, Mindy Whitt Reed, Carrie Whitt, Dalton Ferguson Marshall , Alan Ferguson, Cory Rodgers Irby, Kevin Rodgers, and Molly Venters; eight great grandchildren, Morgan Whitt, Blaine Whitt, Hudson Reed, Harrison Reed, Rooney Mae Carlos, Kindal Irby, Julian Irby, Jackson Rodgers, Ella Reid Rodgers and Clay Marshall.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made in Mrs. Vann’s name to Canterbury Methodist Church, 350 Overbrook Road, Mountain Brook, Alabama 35213.
A graveside service will be held at Southern Heritage Cemetery, 475 Cahaba Valley Road, Pelham, Alabama 35124, at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 19, 2017. The family will be available for visitation immediately before the ceremony.
