Matthew Matt Lawrence Stein

Matthew (Matt) Lawrence Stein, age 31, of Vestavia Hills, Alabama, died Tuesday, June 8, 2010. He will be forever remembered for his handsome appearance, his outgoing and compassionate personality, and his zest for fun. He made memories for everybody. Matt was born in Kennesaw, Georgia, and his family moved to Vestavia Hills when he was in the third grade. He graduated from Vestavia Hills High School in 1997, and later enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served his country on the U.S.S. Nimitz aircraft carrier stationed in San Diego, California. Matt loved waterboarding, skiing, surfing, dancing, and Atlanta Falcons football. Survivors include Matt's mother, Angie Whitten of Albertville, Alabama; his father and step-mother, Larry and Vickie Stein of Vestavia Hills; one step-sister, Melia Smith and her husband Heath; grandparents, Allen and Marilyn Stein of Hiram, Georgia, and Bob and Bobbie Young of Albertville; step-grandparents, Wayne and Marjorie Emerson of Haleyville, Alabama; as well as a large loving extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins. The visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 12, 2010 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama. The memorial service will be at 3 p.m. on Saturday in Southern Heritage Chapel, Pelham.
