Myra Jean Spigner, of Birmingham, AL, was born on March 7, 1940 and went to be with her beloved Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on May 21, 2018 while surrounded by family. Myra Jean was predeceased by her parents, Henry Leslie Bean and Willie B Bean, her sisters, Patricia Ann Adams and Henrietta Wright and brothers David Reese and Billy Luverne Bean. Myra Jean ran her race well and devoted her life to serving Jesus Christ. She passionately fulfilled Jesus's commands to "love the Lord your God with all of your heart, soul, mind, and strength and love your neighbor as yourself" (Matthew 22:37-39). She was a beautiful, simple lady who was loved for her joyful presence, sweet nature and gracious spirit. Family and friends were always welcome in her home where there would usually be cake or pie and sweet tea waiting. She attended every Southern Gospel Singing that was close to her home. For over fifty years she taught Sunday School, led Vacation Bible School, organized youth group outings and she rarely missed a Sunday worship or Wednesday prayer service. She believed in making a Joyful Noise to the Lord, and sang songs like “Victory in Jesus” off-key, louder than the Choir Director! On June 14, 1986, she married the love of her life, M.W. Spigner, who called her “Sweetheart.” He returned the love that she gave to so many. They traveled the South together, hand in hand, enjoying the simple treasures that God placed in remote places. He made her laugh like no one else on Earth could. They were true soulmates until he went Home in 2003, and when he did, he took a part of her with him. They were long-time members of Big Springs Baptist Church where they served their community and church family. Their Love Story was a true fairy tale and it ultimately ended happily ever-after. After Jesus, her family was the focus of her life and was where she particularly excelled in love and service. She is survived by two devoted daughters, Karen Regina O’Brien and her husband Jim of Birmingham, AL, and Ramona Jean Mitchell and her husband Mike of Wilsonville, AL. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Albert Joseph Jackson and his wife Jenniffer and Destiny Regina Mitchell; great grandchildren, Dylan, Christian, Sophie, Riley and Alan; loving sisters Linda Gail Headley (Don), Judy Bernice Peeples, Martha Ann Smith (Randy), Tomerria Ann Scott (Randy), Mary Sue Hill (Tommy), brothers Charles Edward Bean (Diann), HL Bean (Carolyn), and several nieces and nephews. She was at different times in her life a homemaker, a beautician, a Nuclear Medicine technician and a Loan Administrator, and her journey brought a trail of friends that she adored. Her favorite activities included reading the Bible, cross stitching and crocheting. Our family would like to thank the devoted caregivers at Lakeview Estates who were such a blessing with their gifts of love, comfort and care. You are truly angels in uniform! Myra Jean also had a precious relationship with her Calera Senior Center “family.” In the final days of her life, God sent more angels to her at St. Martins in The Pines Hospice facility. This “family” loved and cared for her until she saw the face of Jesus! Myra would ask everyone she met if Jesus was their personal Savior and Lord. If you don’t know Him, this would be her invitation to you to meet Him (John 3:16). The family will receive friends on May 25 from 12:00 pm -2:00 pm at Bell Lane Baptist Church in Clanton, AL, with a Celebration of Life service following beginning at 2:00 pm. A reception at Bell Lane Baptist Church Fellowship Hall will follow the Family Graveside service at the New Salem Baptist Cemetery.
