

Nadine Horne Evans of Chelsea, Alabama, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2025, at the age of 85. She was born in West Point, Georgia on May 26, 1940 to Hattie Grace Burdette Nelson and Alvin Young Nelson. She grew up in Lanett, Alabama, graduating from Lanette High School in 1958, and then completing business school at Alverson-Draughn. In February of 1961, Nadine married Clayton Hugo Horne. Following his death on December 9, 1999, she remarried, to JW “Jack” Evans on June 2, 2002.
Nadine went to work at the Women’s Missionary Union in 1982 after her children finished school and retired in 2000. Nadine enjoyed spending time with her family and church family, scrapbooking, sewing, flower gardening, and traveling.
Nadine is preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Clayton Hugo Horne, her second husband JW “Jack” Evans, and an infant son, Robert Lee Horne. She is survived by her children: Tracy (Lora) Horne, Kathy (Glynn) Hutchens; her “bonus” children: Lois (Joe) Dorough, Nancy Hendrix, Dwight (Ann) Evans, Sharon (Jeff) Ammons, and Christine (Jack) Scholz; and her grandchildren: Alan (Alexis) Horne, Joylynne Horne, Timothy Horne, James (Nicole) Hutchens, Joshua (Rachel) Hutchens, Jordan (Natessa) Hutchens, Emily Hutchens, Craig (Shanette) Dorough, Hunter (Patty) Dorough, Bradley (Samantha) Dorough, Heather (David) Windham, Daniel (Amanda) Hendrix, Kristin (Luke) Echols, EJ Evans, Marissa Evans, Rebeckah (Micah) Blankenship, Rachel (Cody) Conn, Otto Scholz, Matthew Scholz, and her much adored great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She is also survived by her sister Carol Dearman.
The funeral will be Thursday, December 18th at Liberty Baptist Church at 11:00 am, with visitation preceding, starting at 9:30.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her memory to Liberty Baptist Church, the Lottie Moon Christmas offering (via the church), Grief Support, or to a charity of your choice.
