Nick was born on April 14, 1937, the only child of Louis N. Glenos, who emigrated to the U.S. from Greece by stowing away on a ship, and Anna Anastasia Glenos, the daughter of a steel mill worker, also of Greek decent. As a youth, Nick helped in his family’s restaurant business. He attended Ensley and Glenn high schools, as well as the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. He also served in the U.S. Naval Air Reserves.
Nick worked in the restaurant and night club business for much of his life before becoming a real estate broker. He married the love of his life, Sarah Kay Ayers, in 1966, and had three children, Chris, Monica and Nikol.
During the 1970’s, he served as president of the Parish Council of Holy Trinity-Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Cathedral and as a member of the Jefferson County Sheriff Department Reserve Program, first as a member of its mounted “posse” unit and later as sergeant of its solo motorcycle unit. He loved his friends, Alabama football, photography, his gun collection, the AHEPA Chapter 420, telling jokes and making people laugh.
Above all else, Nick loved his family. He was proud of his Greek-American heritage.
Nick is survived by his mother, Anna Glenos Covellis (age 98); his beloved wife, Kay Glenos; children, Chris Glenos (Amy), Monica Glenos, and Nikol Gaut (Scotty); grandchildren, Katie Griffin (19), Nicholas Griffin (13), Christian Glenos (10), Sophia Glenos (9), Frances Gaut (16), and Philip Gaut (14); and many cousins bearing the names Anastasia, Sfakianos and Kavalos.
