Norman graduated from Lawrence County High School before his professional career in welding. In his leisure, he enjoyed playing baseball, watching New York Yankees games, working on old cars, and listening to 1950's and 1960's music. Most of all, he proudly shared with co-workers and friends about his family members' many accomplishments.
Norman is survived by his wife, Joy Lynn Self Gillespie, to whom he was wed on January 14, 1966; three sons, Jeff Gillespie (Stephanie), Joey Gillespie (Tiffany), and Rex Gillespie (Dawn); grandchildren, Brandon Gillespie (Alexis), Rex Gillespie Jr. (Megan), Whitney Therrell (John), Kaitlyn Gillespie, Mary Gillespie, Ava Gillespie, and Zach Gann; great-grandchildren, Brynleigh Therrell and Rex Joseph Gillespie; two sisters, Lucy Mason (Bill) and Shirley Leopard; and one brother, Mac Gillespie.
Family and friends will gather from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, August 27, 2023 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama to celebrate Norman's life and legacy.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.SouthernHeritageFunerals.com for the Gillespie family.
