Pamela Jane Messersmith Hulsey, 73, of Helena, AL, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 27th of complications from her year long battle with cancer. She was born in Cullman, AL on June 14, 1951 and was the middle child and dear-daughter of Martin E. and Doris (Mainard) Messersmith. She graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham with a degree in computer science and spent her entire career as a systems analyst for Bellsouth/AT&T. Since her retirement (which those who understood her best knew couldn’t come fast enough) she has spent her time doing the things she loved: maintaining her yard, bird watching, hiking, biking, kayaking and folding laundry…ask anyone who helped in her caregiving over the past several months! She continued pursuing these things until her treatments made it impossible. Her driving force during treatment was to get back on her bike and return to the mountains of Virginia-her idea of heaven on earth-as she was an avid nature lover and enjoyed nothing more than spending time outdoors in her cherished backyard with her family and friends! She also enjoyed canoeing at Oak Mountain and attending water aerobics at the local YMCA!
She is the loving mother of Tina (Hulsey) Harris, Christopher Wade Hulsey, and daughter-in-law Eve (Hulsey); Nana of Chamberlain, Braxton Harris and Oliver Hulsey; sister of the late Stella (Messersmith) Harris (Eddie), John Messersmith (Karen).
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Pam’s family on Sunday, August 4, 2024 at 2 pm to 3 pm with a service to follow at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home, 475 Cahaba Valley Road, Pelham, Alabama. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to remember Pam in a special way may send a contribution online to The Virginia Creeper Trail Conservancy.
