Patricia Astleford Neathery

Patricia Sue Astleford Neathery, age 82, passed away after a short illness on October 12, 2016. She is survived by daughters, Susan Neathery Fochtmann of Atlanta, GA and Leanne Neathery Sauers (Robert) of Birmingham, AL and 4 grandsons: William David Fochtmann, Thomas Joseph Fochtmann, Robert David Sauers and Jackson Lee Sauers and brother, John Astleford (Jan) of Atlanta, GA. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Thornton L. “Tony” Neathery, parents, John and Sue Astleford (Dothan, AL), son, David Thornton Neathery and grandson, Patrick August Fochtmann.

She was born in Dothan, AL, and attended the Sullins School in Bristol, VA. She graduated from the University of Alabama, School of Home Economics. She was a registered dietitian; self-employed for many years; also employed at Brewer-Porch Children’s Center and an instructor at Shelton State Community College.

She was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority; the University of Alabama's University Women's Club; the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution; Canterbury Chapel Episcopal Church, choir and women’s group; the Tuscaloosa Music Club; the Woodland Hills Music Club; the Woodland Hills Garden Club; the Capstone Civitians Club; and a member and participant in OLLI (Osher Lifelong Learning Institute) at the University of Alabama. She held season tickets and contributed to the Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra.

Honorary pallbearers are the sisters of Alpha Delta Pi and members of the Chief Tuscaloosa Chapter, DAR. The family is grateful to the nurses, physicians and staff in the CICU at Grandview Medical Center.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, October 23rd, 2016, at 2 pm at Canterbury Chapel Episcopal Church, Tuscaloosa. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Canterbury Chapel Pantry Program, 812 5th Ave, Tuscaloosa, AL 35401 or The University of Alabama Alpha Delta Pi Building Fund, P.O. Box 870101, Tuscaloosa, AL 35487. A church reception with family and friends will be held after the service.
