

Ray grew up in Taylorsville, Georgia. He attended college at Jacksonville State University where he graduated with a BS in education. He later earned an MA in Biology from West Georgia College. Ray attended Ranger School and served four years in active duty and over twenty years in the Army Reserves, advancing to Lieutenant Colonel. He served one year in Vietnam. As a teacher, he taught high school science in the public schools and in Sahel Academy in Niger, West Africa. He also had a sixteen year civil service career. His passion was serving God through ministry to others. He was an active member of Briarwood Presbyterian Church. He was always kind, totally selfless, and completely devoted to his family. He was loved by all who knew him, especially his family.
Ray is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Gladys White.
He is survived by his wife, Sherry White; daughters, Elizabeth Susan Braddock and Amanda Rae Adams; grandchildren, Susan Braddock and Janie Braddock.
A Celebration of Ray’s life will be held at 10:00am Monday, December 5 at Southern Heritage Funeral Home. Family will receive friends after the service. Burial will be at 12:30pm at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, Alabama.
