Born October 5, 1952, in Ripley, Mississippi to William Richard Pitner, Jr. and Lottie Marie Horton Pitner, Wayne’s life was shaped by some combination of a love for the Bible and a carefully cultivated knowledge of old movies, especially Westerns. The result was a deep love for others–their stories, their relationships, and a sincere desire to find a way to help them. Professionally he served first as a Park Ranger on the Natchez Trace and later with the United States Postal Service, from which he retired in 2015. He coached numerous little league teams, went on many campouts, attended countless concerts, and shared a lifetime of his own stories and advice with his sons. Later he poured his entire heart into his granddaughters, whom he treasured without measure. Of all the lives he was able to touch as a Christian brother, a civil servant, neighbor and friend, his greatest, and most lasting, impact was felt as a husband, father, and grandfather.
Wayne is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra Davis Pitner (to whom he was married 52 years), his two sons, Richard Nathan Pitner (Becky) and Jordan Blake Pitner (Christen), his sister, Mary Jo Pitner Lance (Kenneth), sister-in-laws, Betty Pitner and Linda Davis, and his granddaughters, Elliot Berkley Pitner and Sydney Abigail Pitner, as well as his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, William Robert Pitner.
A visitation will be held at Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, AL on Saturday, May 16 at 11:00 am followed by a Celebration of Life at noon.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests for donations to be made in Richard's honor at sacredselections.org and https://kittykathavenrescue.org/
