

Bob received his formal education at J.B. Pennington High School in Blountsville, Alabama. He furthered his education at Jacksonville State University, where he earned his undergraduate degree, and later continued his studies at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, earning his master’s degree.
A faithful member of Meadow Brook Baptist Church, Bob lived a life rooted in service, faith, and family. He was united in marriage to Iva Nella Honea on December 15, 1964, in Ider, Alabama. Their loving union was blessed with two children.
Bob devoted 32 years of service to the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services, where he worked as a counselor and supervisor.
In his leisure time, Bob enjoyed golfing, cheering on Alabama sports, and spending time at the YMCA, where he loved exercising and fellowship. He also enjoyed senior activities at Meadow Brook Baptist Church.
Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nella; his parents, Elton and Hattie Cargo; and his brothers, Donald, Billy Ray, and Glen Cargo.
He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Melissa Hodge (Kent) and Vickie Shamblin (Jason); grandchildren, Hilary McLamb (Jared), Harrison Hodge (Kristina), and Ryan Shamblin (Mary Kate); and great-grandchildren, Grayson McLamb and Ariana Hodge.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Jimmy Hale Mission.
Visitation will be held at Meadow Brook Baptist Church on Friday, February 6, 2026, at 1:00 p.m., with the funeral service beginning at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Fuller Cemetery in Ider, Alabama.
