

Robert was a manly man who could repair anything. From his early teen years, he was self-employed in brick masonry, a profession in which a long line of his relatives served.
Robert was a member of Community Baptist Church in Maylene, Alabama. With his church and several other churches in the Birmingham, Alabama area, he enjoyed doing building projects on mission trips in the United States and internationally.
Robert was predeceased by his parents, Burns and Nellie Cosper Duke; nine siblings, Howard (Geneva) Duke, Mary Nell (Bob) Ellis, Mildred (Bob) Vess, Betty (Drennen) Screws, J.P. Duke, Maggie (Darrell) Shults, Martha Duke, Dudley Duke, and Linda Gail Duke; and one brother-in-law, Carroll Rogers.
Survivors include Robert’s wife of 24 years, Linda Hinds Duke; one son, Robert Burns (Ann) Duke, Jr.; step-children, Christopher (Melissa) Rigdon, Leah (David) O’Gwynn, and Billy (Lindsey) Rigdon; grandchildren; one sister, Alice Rogers; nieces; and nephews.
Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. on Friday, March 8, 2019 at Ridout’s Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama, immediately followed by A Celebration of Robert’s Life at 11 a.m. in the funeral home’s chapel. Burial will follow at Helena City Cemetery. Dr. Steve Screws, one of Robert’s nephews, will officiate.
