

Robert Michael Johnson “Bob,” 81 of Birmingham, AL passed away February 5,2020. He was born in Springfield, MA on October 22, 1938. Bob graduated from Norwich University, Northfield VT with an Honorary Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
As a fearless entrepreneur, Bob moved to Birmingham, AL in 1967 to work in the pulp and paper industry. He later opened his own engineering company, JHK Systems, 1975-2005.
He was well-known for supporting the Catholic Diocese in their fundraising events, such as the annual spaghetti dinners at St. Stanislaus and the Labor Day picnics at St. Thomas on the Hill. He also volunteered several years to coach the Toy Bowl Football League at Our Lady of Sorrows in Homewood, as well as helped them coordinate the annual 4th of July picnics.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father and Papa. He will be remembered for his contagious personality, his savory dishes, his hilarious stories, his unfailing work ethic, and his unconditional generosity. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends and all who knew him.
Bob was preceded in death by his father and mother, Ole William Johnson and Mabelle Virginia Ferris, and his first wife Mary Richardson Johnson “Sam.”
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Virginia H. Johnson “Pep.” He is also survived by his brother Tom Johnson and his sister Shelly Cushman, his children Laura Bettis (David), Cindy Blackstone (Paul), Barret Duchock (John), Jennifer Gamble (David), Bill Johnson (Terri), and Judy McLaughlin (Doug), 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
The visitation will begin at 2:00PM and the funeral will follow at 3:00PM Monday, February 10, 2020 at St. Mark the Evangelist, Birmingham, AL.
In lieu of flowers, friends may make memorial contributions to Catholic Charities or The American Heart Association.
