Born in Chicago, Rob spent his childhood residing in Illinois, California and Oregon. A curious child, his sharp mind was matched only by his natural athleticism. As a member of the 1988 graduating class of Sunset High School in Portland, Oregon, he missed his graduation to play in a championship soccer game in Phoenix, Arizona.
Rob attended Santa Clara University in California where he played on their golf team before transferring and graduating with a Marketing degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham where he played on their soccer team.
Post grad, Rob would continue his passion for soccer and golf by playing semi-pro soccer with the Birmingham Grasshoppers, coaching for Mountain Brook Schools, helping to establish the BUSA program, and working as a golf pro at local country clubs. Although an injury ended his soccer career, his days on the golf course remained frequent and was always one of his favorite places to spend time with friends and meet new ones.
In the early 2000’s, Rob opened Starz Karaoke Lounge on Valley Avenue in Birmingham. A few years later, he would open a second location on Highway 280 in North Shelby County where he would continue its legacy for two decades. Starz was the go-to destination for karaoke, birthday parties, and all of life’s celebrations. Starz gave Rob an opportunity to do what he does best, bringing people together and making them feel like they belonged.
Rob had a slight obsession with shoes, Nike’s to be exact. If there was an occasion or an outfit, Rob had a pair of Nike’s to match. Many of his conversations with guests at Starz revolved around his shoes or theirs. His favorite holiday was Christmas. He was a bit over-dramatic and had at least one tree in every room of his house - he was never without Christmas cheer for all to hear. He was a foodie and cherished sharing a meal with those he loved. Whether it was out at a restaurant, cooking for them in his home, or late night burger delivery from his favorite food truck downtown. He was spontaneous, full of adventure, and a dedicated fan of the Chicago Cubs.
Rob is survived by his greatest joys in life, his three children, daughter Ericka (Ryan), son Ty, and daughter Townley; and his grandson, Carter. Of all he achieved, nothing in life meant more to him than his children and having the privilege to be their Dad.
In addition to his children, Rob is survived by his parents, Robert and Agnes Loboda; brother, Matthew (Amy); a nephew and nieces; and extended family. He also leaves behind his two beloved dogs, Wrigley and Rudy, his Starz family, countless friends, and a community who loved and adored him.
