

"Bob" graduated from Woodlawn High School and immediately joined the U.S. Navy. After his honorable discharge from the military, his first job was with Lee Way Motor Freight, where he began his long-time career in transportation. After 18 years with Lee Way Motor Freight, he worked for Interstar Transportation. Later, he became an agent for Landstar, retiring in 2024.
Bob was predeceased by his wife, Donna Harbuck Lykes, and his parents, Edwin Herbert Lykes and Lois Pulliam Lykes. He will be deeply missed by his sister, Diane Lykes Purdes; his children, Richard Lykes (Laurel), Karen Lykes Ellis (Mike), Derrick Lykes, and Philip Lykes; his step-children, Amy Stephens, Michele Williams (Chris), and Lauren Taggart (Nick); grandchildren, Jason Hiestand (Paige), Danielle Hiestand Gray (Ryan), Cheyanne Burns, Katelynn Lykes, Ashley Lykes, Adam Lykes, Sarah Lykes, Ellison Lykes, and Andrew Lykes; and great-grandchildren, Aubree Kelley and Aiden Kelley.
The family will greet friends on Thursday, February 5, 2026 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama from 1-2 p.m., followed by A Service of Remembrance for Robert Edwin Lykes at 2 p.m. at Ridout's Southern Heritage. Burial will be at Southern Heritage Cemetery, Pelham.
