Robert West White

Robert West White, 51, died suddenly on Saturday, January 25, 2020 in Birmingham, Alabama. The man of many laughs and many personas (Bob White, Robbie Raggs, and others) will leave a gaping hole in the lives of countless individuals who grew to love him.

Robbie was born in Birmingham on August 27, 1968 and from an early age it was obvious that Robbie was not an average young man. He amused classmates, close friends, acquaintances, and complete strangers everywhere he went. Those who knew him well knew that they could count on a hearty greeting and a hug, a self-deprecating joke and, most likely, an adventure whenever he showed up. While he was known for many things over the course of his 51 years, the overwhelming characteristic that marked his close relationships was kindness.

Robbie wrote his own rules with a singular goal: ensuring those around him were comfortable and having a good time. It was no surprise that this led him to a long and storied career in radio, stand-up comedy, sales, and production. If it allowed him to interact with the public, he was up for trying it, though his first love was always radio. Robbie began his career at the popular Birmingham radio station I-95 in the 1980s where he was known as Robbie Raggs. His work eventually took him to radio stations in other states including Florida, Virginia, and Mississippi and he even tried his hand at stand-up comedy in New York City. Most recently, Robbie was the morning show co-host at 97OKK in Meridian, Mississippi where he had formed close relationships with his co-workers and will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his brother, William Collins White, III. He is preceded in death by his parents, William Collins White, Jr. and Joan Fraim White.

A memorial brunch will be held at Greystone Golf & Country Club (Founders Course) on Saturday, February 1 from 10:00am-12:00pm. A private interment will be held at a later date.
