

WURSTNER, Roland David, age 79, a retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Master Navigator, of North Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away Monday, October 16, 2017 in Birmingham, Alabama. He was born March 6, 1938 in Dayton, Ohio, son of the late Robert R. and Betty Louise (Miller) Wurstner.
A 1956 graduate of Vandalia-Butler High School (Vandalia, Ohio), Roland earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Purdue University in 1960, and upon graduation, was commissioned in the U.S. Air Force. A proud Vietnam veteran, Roland served 25 years in service to his country, retiring in 1985. Roland was an avid motorcycle rider and dog lover. He was an active member and volunteer with the VFW and numerous veteran’s organizations in the Las Vegas area.
Roland was preceded in death by his wife of 12 years, Vivian Ruth, and one sister, Carolyn (Wurstner) McCutchen. Survivors include three sons, David (Linda) Wurstner, Karl (Jill) Wurstner, and Eric (Traci) Wurstner; two brothers, Dale (Louann) Wurstner and Robert “Bob” (Becky) Wurstner; eight grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, November 18, 2017 at Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr. in Vandalia, Ohio. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until time of service. Interment will immediately follow a short graveside service on November 18 at the Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery, 8135 N. Dixie Dr., Dayton, Ohio. Military honors will also be performed in honor of Lt. Col. Wurstner’s service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans (dav.org) in Roland Wurstner’s name.
