

"Tom" or "Shorty," as he was affectionately know by family and friends, was a U.S. Air Force Veteran. He was employed for several years with Southern Electric Steel before the company closed. Later, he went into management with Southeast Meats in Pelham, Alabama until his retirement with over 20 years of service.
From age 19 until his retirement, Mr. Caldwell was overseer at Croft-Acton Cemetery, Birmingham. He was a long-time member of Rocky Ridge Cumberland Presbyterian Church and loved to go fishing in his leisure time.
Mr. Caldwell was predeceased by his wife of 43 years, Mary Jo Sellers Caldwell; his parents, Margaret Stella Bailey Caldwell and Benjamin Lloyd Caldwell; one son, Danny Thomas Hallman; a granddaughter, Heather Fleming Pritchett; and three brothers, Thomas Joseph Caldwell, William Lloyd Caldwell, and Robert Erwin Caldwell.
Survivors include Mr. Caldwell's daughter, Donna Fleming (Larry); three granddaughters, Melissa Fleming Huynh, Ashleigh Fields (Tony), and Caitlyn Butler (Tylor); and two great-grandchildren, Stella Rayne Huynh and Jackson Daniel Butler.
The family will greet friends from 1-2 p.m. on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at New Hope Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 5521 Double Oak Lane, Birmingham, AL 35242. The visitation will be followed immediately by A Service of Remembrance for "Shorty" Caldwell at 2 p.m. at the church. Burial will be at Croft-Acton Cemetery. Pastor DeWayne Pounds and Rev. Donny Acton will officiate, and active pallbearers will be Brent Caldwell, Bill Caldwell, Phil Yonfa, Scott Caldwell, Chad Caldwell, Zach Caldwell, Doug Doran, and Colton Jenkins.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Rocky Ridge Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 2404 Altadena Road, Birmingham, AL 35243.
