She graduated from Greensboro High School. She worked as a secretary in both Tuscaloosa and Birmingham prior to starting her family.
She was preceded in death by her beloved son Foster "David" Mathews III who was gone too soon; her sister Ruth Johnson and her brothers Richard, Robert and Ronald Smith.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years Foster David Mathews Jr.; her grandson Andrew David Mathews; her daughter-in-law Cindy S. Mathews and a host of nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service was held on Tuesday, May 6, 2025 at Southern Heritage with Rev Mike Kiker officiating.
