Roy Theo Preston Jr.

Roy Theo Preston Jr., 76, of Hoover, AL, passed away Friday night, March 28, 2014. He was born in Birmingham, AL on September 24, 1937. Ray graduated from the University of Alabama with his undergraduate degree before earning his medical degree from the University of Alabama Medical School. He was married to the former Margie Elaine Anthony on August 8, 1958. Roy worked in anesthesiology for Baptist Medical Centers, Cooper Green Mercy Hospital, the Surgery Center in Enterprise, AL, and the Birmingham Pain Center. He was a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists and was a Fellow in the American Society of Anesthesiologists. His favorite pastimes included woodworking, gardening, antique collecting, and Dr. Seuss memorabilia. Roy served in the U.S. Air Force, attaining the rank of Captain and working as a physician. He completed his internship and residency at Lloyd Nolan Hospital. Roy served on the leadership board of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Alabama. He was a member of Briarwood Presbyterian Church in Birmingham for over 40 years and served as a deacon and elder. He was loved by many friends and family. Roy is survived by his wife, Margie; children, Christopher Roy Preston, Keith Douglas Preston (Joyce), Kenneth Michael Preston, and Julie Preston Bean (Tim); and grandchildren, Michael Douglas Preston, Megan Nicole Bean, Mallory Elizabeth Bean, and Darcy Kendall Bean. The private burial will be at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo and will be followed by a celebration service on Wednesday afternoon at Briarwood Presbyterian Church, Birmingham.
