Ruth was born in Ashland, Alabama, and lived in the Birmingham area for 50 years. She worked for Woolworth Department Store before becoming employed with Miller's Department Store.
Survivors include Ruth's husband, Curtis S. Hare; one son, Jess W. Carr Jr.; daughter, Sandra Cavender; two grandchildren, Jonathan E. Carr and Jeremy L. Carr; and three sisters, Mary Storey, Martha Ann Ray, and Margaret Hamrick.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, April 5, 2010 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. the same day in Southern Heritage Chapel, Pelham. Rev. Larry Smith will officiate. Burial will follow in Southern Heritage Cemetery, Pelham.
Memorial gifts may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
