Sherry Tamburello Ciza went to be with our Lord on April 20, 2026. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Ciza, her parents, Jake and Monnie Lou Tamburello, and her beloved daughter Judi Hobbs. She is survived by her sons, Joseph III, John (Kim), and Jimmy (Tania), son-in-law John Hobbs, her 8 grandchildren (and their spouses), and 9 great-grandchildren.
Sherry was born on May 18, 1936 in Louisville, Kentucky and was raised in the Ensley community of Birmingham, Alabama. She attended Ensley High School while working at her father's grocery store. During a summer beach trip to Panama City Beach with her sister Toni and best friend Joyce, she met the love of her life, Joe. They were married and moved to Long Island, New York where they began their family. After a couple of years, they moved to Birmingham, Alabama and continued their family.
Sherry was a devout Catholic and attended St Aloysius Church. She was a kind, caring, and loving person who had a strong personality. She was a strict disciplinarian who liked things done her way and in an immediate fashion. Like her husband Joe, she was willing to help anyone in need and quietly supported many charitable efforts in the background as not to bring any attention to herself. Together with Joe, they laid the foundation for their children and set an example for all who knew her by showing love, devotion, hard work, honesty, integrity, and kindness. She was known by several names that included Sherry, Sherry Ann, mom, mommy, nana (her all-time favorite), aunt Sherry, Mrs. Ciza, and many others. Sherry spent a lifetime supporting her four children in all of their extracurricular activities (and that was a lot) as a cheerleader, taxi driver, seamstress, cook and anything else that could possibly be needed. Her house and kitchen were always open for the neighborhood kids, who she always treated as her own. During the mid 1970s, she began volunteering in the library at St. Joseph's school in Ensley. Eventually, she became the full-time librarian and remained as such until the school closed. Finally, one of her favorite things in life was cooking and hosting the Sunday family gatherings as well as all of the holidays, especially Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Eve.
Sherry lived her life as a Christian and will truly be missed.
Funeral arrangements will be held at a later date with an inurnment at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church Columbarium in a private ceremony.
