Shirley Powell Paradise

Mrs. Shirley Powell Paradise, 89 of Vestavia Hills, passed away on Wednesday, May 31, 2017. She was born in Dutton, Alabama and attended Jackson County Schools in Scottsboro, Alabama. She completed her education at Auburn University with a B.S. degree in Business Education. Upon graduation she became a teacher at Shades Valley High School.

Mrs. Paradise was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church. At fourteen years of age, she was playing the piano for the Dutton Methodist Church, and as a charter member of the St. Mark United Methodist Church, she served as organist for several years. She was an inactive member of the Service Guild of Birmingham and a former member of the Vestavia Hills Garden Club.

Mrs. Paradise is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Stanley Paradise and son, John Paradise. She is survived by her daughter, Dell Paradise; granddaughters, Michele Paradise Mickwee (Tom) and Sarah Paradise; and great grandchildren, Emily and Wyatt Mickwee.

Funeral services at St. Mark United Methodist Church will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, June 3, 2017 with visitation beginning at 9:30am. The officiating pastors will be Dr. Belon Friday with Don Cross assisting. Burial will follow at the Section United Methodist Church. The family suggests memorials to be made to the Section United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund.
