Cathy, my heart aches for you, Andy and Beth, and those beautiful grandchildren of yours.  I pray that God is wrapping his arms around all of you as you grieve for your loss.  Steve was truly a wonderful man and your marriage was one that all should try to emulate.  I know when I would tell Steve he took you away from me when you transferred to Montevallo from Alabama that I was kidding but I really did miss my roommate. However, I knew he was the one and I would have done the same thing.  I enjoyed so much all of the fun times we had together and I know he is "Singing with the Angels and Playing the drums".  I am keeping you in my prayers and you know if you need me, I am as close as the phone. You know you are my one of my "Life-Long" friends and I love you.

I heard over the last few days of this.  I am deeply sorry at the loss of my friend Steve.  I have not seen him in years, but were we to meet on the street, we would have resumed as if it were yesterday.  In life we truly know very few honest and pure souls; I was fortunate to have been blessed by his.
Cathy, we love you, and will continue to pray for you and share your grief.

I have just learned of Steve's passing. I got to know him as we had the same territory and we would usually be waiting for the doctors at the same time. He was always a bright spot in my day! I am thankful to have known him. My prayers are with all of the Wald family.

Steve was a true example of God's hands and feet.  As the leader of my small group he along with others helped me paint the entire inside of my home, replace my kitchen light, worked tirelessly in my yard and at the end of the day sat in my basement and engaged my three sons by playing the keyboard while they joined with other instruments.  I will never forget him for his selfless acts of kindness towards me and my children.  He and his wife Cathy were the perfect example of a godly marriage.  Steve truly led by example and a huge void is left here on earth!  The only good part about his passing is that all those who believe and trust in our Savior, Jesus Christ will get to see him again someday for eternity.  Love a thankful friend!

I worked with Steve at GSK.  One of my last memories was a note of very kind words he sent to me during a difficult time, and I knew 
that he truly meant what he said.  I just learned the news of his passing 
today. This very night last week 
someone brought up his name at a 
dinner and we shared some nice 
memories of Steve, I had no idea 
that I would get this news.   What a 
Kind gentleman he was.

I worked with Steve at GSK and what a role model he was. A true gentlemen in every way. He made a true impact on me and for that I'm truly grateful that God allowed us to cross paths. My prayers to his family. God Bless You All.

 He was my dad, he was my hero.  He taught me a lot of things, but I think there is one moment that he would be the most proud of.  

 When I was 5 years old, on Valentines Day, February 14th 1988, he used the Four Spiritual Laws to lead me to the Lord.  About a year ago, my oldest son, Caleb, asked me what it took to go to heaven when you die and I lead him in a prayer to receive Christ.  When I told dad, he told me that he saved the Four Spiritual Laws book that he used with me, and he gave me that exact book and it sits at my house waiting to be used on my other children.  I don't think dad was ever more proud of me than the moment I told him that I had lead my son to the Lord, and he was so excited that I wanted to be able to use that same book on my kids.  

 When I was a little boy, dad's office was upstairs near my room.  Every morning when I woke up, dad was in his office studying.  When I was little, I thought that dad was studying whatever homework that daddies get at work.  As I grew I realized that my dad was awake every morning reading his Bible and praying.  I cannot remember a day that he wasn't there.  He was never too busy, never too tired, and never stayed up to late the night before.  One of my former pastors sent out a prayer request email as he always does and in it he stated that dad has gone to be with the church triumphant.  Those words bring so much comfort as this time.  I know that dad loved the Lord, and I know where he is now.  My dad is with the church triumphant will be with Jesus forever.  I want to read the passage from the devotional, Our Daily Bread, that I found in my dad's office.  This is what he would have read this morning.  

 My dad had a fun and even silly side as well.  He did a magic trick for every kid he ever met where he would make his whole leg disappear with a towel.  He loved to do that trick, and he loved the look on kids faces when they figured out how he did the trick.    Dad would giggle and laugh just as hard as the kids while they ran around behind the towel to see where his leg went.  

 When I was 12, he bought a Yamaha wave runner for us to play on at our lake house.  Before I was old enough to drive it, he would ride behind me and drive me around.  He took great joy in trying to spin in around in what we called a 360 and his goal was always to dump us both in the water.  He always fell, and he always came up with a smile on his face to see me sitting on the wave runner waiting for him to get back on.  He always laughed saying that he never did figure out how to throw me off that thing.  We had so much fun.  Sometimes he would let me drive.  To me that was the greatest thing in the world.    Driving that wave runner, with dad behind me guiding my every move, I owned the whole lake and thought I could do anything.  In life, I knew that dad believed in me, and his confidence made me feel like I could do anything.  
 
 When I was 15 and learning how to drive he demonstrated his patience.  On a vacation, in a brand new car and pulling a camper trailer, somehow I ended up driving into Chicago at rush hour.  My dad was so calm that I didn't even know I should be intimidated or scared... until Mom woke up and screamed.  He taught me how to drive a stick shift in one afternoon, and never once complained of whiplash.  
 
 When I bought my first house, every square inch of the house had to be painted.  It was hideous.  One weekend, before we moved into the house, Mom and Dad drove four hours to our house, rented a hotel room and spent the weekend painting the house.  They put in longer hours painting than me or my wife were able too.  On the day they left, they checked out of their hotel and drove to my house and spent the day painting and drove home late in the day.  They did all that on a day when Beth and I couldn't be there to paint at all.  They accomplished more in a weekend than I could have ever imagined.  Dad was like that in everything he did.  He was self sacrificing, and extremely hard working while he did it.  No matter what needed to be done he would pour his heart and soul into helping others.  The love of Christ shined through Dad.  

 When I told my children that their “Deke,” thats what they called
 dad, was gone, my oldest understood and we cried together for a while.  My five year old matter of factly stated that Deke was in heaven, and that when he dies and goes to heaven that Deke will be there waiting to see him.  When I put them down to bed that night they both said their prayers.  Both of them thanked God that they got to see grandparents, that they had good food, and that Jesus died on the cross to forgive their sins.  That night I prayed that God would give me a thankful spirit.  That I would be thankful for the father he gave me, that I would be thankful for all the great time I had with him, and that I would be thankful for the peace that comes from knowing that he is now with Jesus.  

 Every year on Easter Sunday early in the morning Dad would call me.  The first thing he would say was “He is risen,” and I would respond with “He is risen indeed.”  Since tomorrow is Easter, I hope that we could all say that together here today so if you would please follow my lead.  “He is Risen.”

Cathy, I'm very sorry. I graduated in 81 with Dale Glasscock and David Kelly.  They were the athletes. I just wanted to be an umpire.  Every time I visit my parents in AL.  I drive by the old rock school.  I'll never forget i went to him and told him i wanted to umpire and he said, "We got a scrimage tomorrow after school.  I showed up with my equipment wearing hunting boots cause i had no umpire plate shoes. A few year later after umpire school I went back before working some college games and he was so glad to see me, he hugged me.  He was such a good guy and influence on my buddies and me.  They had the greatest respect for him and so did I.  He gave a kid a chance when he wanted it.  Dwell on the good things.  By the way I am a church organist for the last 30 years.  He also like me cause i could play keys a bit as he did. Take care.

I had the pleasure to work with Steve at GSK.  I was so sorry to hear about his passing. He was  a wonderful man and a great partner to work with.  My prayers are with your family during this difficult time.

I loved the entire Wald family, beginning with Virginia and Maurice.  Both of his parents adored their son, and I'm sure they are having a glorious reunion this Easter weekend.  If my memory serves me, Virginia also died during Easter in 2006, and I still miss her and our times of praying together.  My thoughts and prayers go to Cathy and his brothers at this very sad time in their lives.  Pat McDaniel

I worked with Steve at GSK and held him in the highest regard. He was such a fine person and an outstanding pharma rep. I always enjoyed being around him at meetings and admired his Christian stance. He talked with me about his family and how important they were to him. His work ethic was outstanding and he frequently came up with creative ideas he used to grow his sales.
All in all I thought he was just an outstanding person and I liked him very much. He will be missed by a lot of people.

Such a wonderful man.  Coach Wald was one of my teachers at Pinson Valley.  A few years ago I was lucky enough to know him as a pharmaceutical rep for the medical practice I worked in.  From myself and the entire Class of 1981 PVHS-Heaven has just acquired a saint.  He was an inspiration in school, and I am sure he was at Lovelady as well.
