

Sybil (Syble) Paulette (Ward) Marshall, 75, of Hoover, Alabama, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family’s love and comfort, on April 4, 2026. She was born on November 28, 1950, in Decatur, Alabama, to Gene Ward and Esther Marie (Slayton) Ward.
Syble’s life embodied unconditional love, devotion, generosity, and faith. She was baptized in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church in Homewood, Alabama, on March 31, 1968. She was a dedicated wife, mother, and Nana who steadfastly supported her family through every season of life. She dedicated over 50 years to caring for children, tirelessly nurturing and guiding young lives—affectionately known as Mrs. Syble. Through her family and career, she touched countless lives in a way only she could. Known for her fierce love and generous spirit, she lived as a true testament to faith, family, and hard work. Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy of love, devotion, and strength will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Syble is survived by her beloved husband of 56 years, Terry Marshall; her children, Kent Marshall (Angela) and Dana Long (Mark); her grandchildren, Ashlyn “Gracie” Shelton (Ben), Katelyn “Kate-Kate” Fortner (Trey), Maddox “Mad-man” Bush, and Brooks “Brooksie” Long; her step-granddaughter, Isabella “Bella” Marino (Angela); her great-granddaughters, Campbell (Ashlyn) and Drew (Katelyn, due in September); and her brother, Joe Ward. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gene and Esther Marie (Slayton) Ward; her sister, Bobbie Bowman; and her brother, Gene Ward Jr.
A funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, April 11, 2026, at 12:00 pm at Southern Heritage Funeral Home & Cemetery in Pelham, Alabama. Visitation begins at 10:00 am; all are welcome, young and old. A private graveside service will follow.
Pallbearers: Wesley Ward, Ben Shelton, Trey Fortner, Mark Long, Maddox Bush, and Grant Bush. Honorary Pallbearer: Brooks Long.
