Sydney “Sydie” Smith Allen, age 74 of Birmingham, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Thursday, November 09, 2017. She was a member of Briarwood Presbyterian Church and a member of Deeper Life Sunday School Class. She graduated from Shades Valley High School and from Auburn University with a B.S. Degree in Education. Sydie loved God, her family, her church, and Auburn football. She was very active with the Alzheimer’s of Central Alabama.
Mrs. Allen is preceded in death by her parents, Eleanor H. Smith and Sidney A. Smith; and grandson, Sidney “Sid” Fitzgerald Ortis. She is survived by her husband, Thomas “Tommy” Durrett Allen, Sr.; son, Thomas “Rett” Durrett Allen, Jr.; daughter, Lynn Allen Ortis (Scott); grandchildren, Andy (Ellen), Gray, Kati and Elle Ortis, and Zach Moehle; sister, Leta Westmoreland (Don); and many nieces and nephews.
There will be a graveside service at Southern Heritage followed by a 1:30 pm celebration of Sydie’s life at Briarwood Presbyterian Church on Monday, November 13, 2017. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Alzheimer’s of Central Alabama at P.O. Box 2273, Birmingham, AL, sidstrongfound.org, or to Briarwood Presbyterian Church.
