

Rev. Dr. Ted Shelton of Birmingham, Alabama met his Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, January 3, 2025. Raised in Knoxville, Tennessee, he graduated from East High School, served four years in the U.S. Air Force, and then graduated from the University of Tennessee.
Ted began his 30-year career with the Bell System and retired from AT&T as Director of Marketing in 1995. In his second career, he obtained a Master’s Degree in Biblical Counseling and a Master’s of Divinity Degree from Birmingham Theological Seminary, was ordained in the PCA, and also earned a Doctorate of Ministry Degree from Westminster Theological Seminary as well as a PhD in Counseling Psychology from Trinity Southern University. He served as Director of Counseling and Senior Associate Pastor at Briarwood Presbyterian Church in Birmingham for 10 years.
In 2002, Ted opened Reconciliation Counseling Resource Center, Inc., a non-profit counseling ministry where he served many individuals and couples until retiring in 2015. He also served as a Chaplain with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office including several years of volunteering with his certified search and rescue bloodhound, Josie.
Ted is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 63 years, Betty; daughter, Beth Drennen (Ward); grandchildren, Cayla Durkee (William), Matthew Drennen (Hannah), Emily Drennen, and Mitchell Drennen; great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Durkee; and faithful mini-doodle, Millie. Ted is also survived by his brother, Mickey Shelton; sister-in-law, Teresa Conley; and several nieces and nephews.
Our family wishes to thank Denise Davis, Jackie Dicie, and Teresa Brown for the loving care they showed Ted over the past several years.
Ted’s service will be Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at 2 p.m. at Ridout's Southern Heritage, 475 Cahaba Valley Road, Pelham, AL 35124. The family will greet friends 30 minutes prior to the service.
On Wednesday, January 15, 2025, private interment will be at Alabama National Cemetery, Montevallo.
