Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, Tom worked for Union Carbide for 26 years, much of that time in Birmingham, Alabama as plant manager. He retired from California Polytechnic University, his alma mater, as Environmental, Health and Safety Manager in 2007.
Survivors include Tom's wife of 48 years, Loretta Ann Barber; daughters, Cathy Barber (Danny Gamble), Carol Barber, Chris Lafrenz (Marty), and Carrie McGrann (Paul); grandchildren, Dylan and Codi McGrann, and Ian and Sophie Lafrenz; and sister, Janice Barber.
Visitation will be one hour before the 11 a.m. Funeral Mass on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Montevallo, Alabama. Father Raymond Dunmyer will officiate.
The interment will be at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday at Southern Heritage Cemetery, in Pelham, Alabama, immediately followed by a reception at the adjoining Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home, Pelham. All family and friends are invited.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the National Parkinson’s Foundation.
