

Greatly loved and respected, Van Robinson (Pete) Comfort, 89, of Birmingham, passed away December 20, 2020 of Covid-19. He was born June 18, 1931 in Tarrant, Alabama. He graduated from Auburn University and Birmingham School of Law. He loved politics, sports (especially Auburn sports), music, movies, financial shows, anything related to the law and a good meal. Mostly he loved his family. He was a child of God.
Pete was preceded in death by of wife of 65 years, Joan Harris Comfort. They truly loved and respected each other. They were a great team. They always put the other first, but did not mind scolding, if needed. Also predeceasing him were his brother, Gail Comfort and his sister, Dorothy Comfort Klimetz.
He enjoyed working at SONAT for many years, where he was an Executive Vice President. After he retired, he volunteered with Executive Services Corp. and with the United Methodist Homes.
He is survived by his daughters, Julie Comfort Lockhart, (Charley), Jill Comfort Watson, (Ken), his granddaughters Rachel, Lauren and Alexandra Lockhart, as well as Pam and Clay Smith and their family, and all of Joan’s cousins who were family to him. Family get togethers were his favorite thing.
There will be a graveside service for immediate family on Tuesday, December 22, at 3:00 p.m. at Southern Heritage. Service will be officiated by Reverend Tom Parrish.
