

ENSLEN, VIOLET BAILEY, age 77, of the Inverness community of Birmingham, AL and formerly of Arab, AL passed away Sunday, June 23, 2013. Growing up in Birmingham, "Vi" had an active, young life, becoming a Powers Model in New York at age 13. She was graceful, beautiful, and exceptionally artistic. She once owned a florist, where she designed gorgeous arrangements with love and talent.
Vi finished Birmingham Southern College, and was named Miss Birmingham Southern and Most Photogenic. She and her husband, Charlie Enslen Sr., were very active in Alabama politics. Her favorite politician was the famous Sheriff Mel Bailey, who was raised by Vi's family and loved as a brother.
Vi was formally one of the colorful and faithful members of The Club in Birmingham, and was active in many of the area's civic organizations. She will be fondly remembered by her many friends for her strong spirit and faith.
Vi is survived by one daughter, Patricia Elliott of Opelika, AL; two sons, Charles F. Enslen II of Birmingham and Christian B. Enslen of Anchorage, AK; and three grandchildren, Morgan Elliott, Amanda Rupp, and Tammy Tate.
The family will greet friends one hour before the 7 p.m. Celebration of Vi's Life on Monday, July 1, 2013 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, AL. The private graveside service will follow in Oakhill Cemetery, Birmingham.
