W. C. Garrett, born December 9, 1933, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 27, 2025. He was born and raised in Saginaw, Alabama, where he spent his life in the excavation business and later worked and retired from Carmuese Lime.
W.C. was a self-taught carpenter, welder/fabricator, and general master of most trades. He had a restaurant in Bessemer, Alabama for awhile, loved to work, and dug graves for most of his life as part of his living. He gained a reputation for doing the best, cleanest job in the business.
Over many years, W.C. helped most anyone that needed it, often without being asked, just out of the kindness in that huge heart of his. He retired from the lime plant and sold his business in 2006, and spent most of the rest of his life helping the lucky lad that bought his business. He piddled in his carpenter shop building picnic tables, porch swings, and such for friends and family, usually for free or a donation.
W.C. "Wild Cat" Garrett was a great friend to many. All who knew him well could not help but love his tender heart.
He is survived by his son Allan Garrett (Patricia), grandchildren Amanda (Ken) Wall and Andrew Garrett, and three great-grandchildren; daughter, Cathy Garrett (Donnie), grandchildren Ray, Chris, Carolyn, and BJ, and 10 great- and great-great-grandchildren; and nephews Randy and Ricky Pate. W.C. is also survived by special friends Michael T. Wilson (Jennifer), Susan Garrett, Tammy Hayes (Mike), Terry Davis (Anita), and Courtney Little.
Visitation will be Wednesday, June 4, 2025 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama from 10-11 a.m., followed by A Service of Celebration for W.C. Garrett's Life at 11 a.m. at Ridout's Southern Heritage, 475 Cahaba Valley Road, Pelham, AL 35124. Burial will be at Nabor's Cemetery, Saginaw.
