

Known affectionately as Wendell, he was born on November 19, 1946, to the late Alonzo and Annie Plyler, and lived a life marked by quiet strength, deep commitment to family, and a strong work ethic.
Wendell earned a bachelor's degree in business management from Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. He dedicated over four decades of service to the Union Pacific as a Railroad Conductor, retiring after 41 and one-half years of loyal and dependable work. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Gulf Shores, Alabama. His legacy lives not just through the tracks he helped maintain, but in the lives of those he loved and led with unwavering care.
Wendell was preceded in death by his siblings, Carl Wayne Plyler, Richard Plyler, and Carolyn Thomas; and several nieces and nephews. He is survived by his sister, Shirley Barker (James) of Malvern, Arkansas, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Wendell was the beloved husband of Judith “Judy” Ann Plyler. They shared nearly 60 beautiful years of marriage, with their 60th anniversary approaching August 14. Their marriage was a shining example of devotion, partnership, and enduring love.
In addition to Judy, Wendell is survived by his daughters, Kim Cromwell (Rick), Delisa “DeeDee” Sanders (Kenny), and Wendy Wilson (Rob); and his grandchildren, Chase, Cody, Lauren, Lindsey, Carli, and Brooklynn. He was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, Adelynne and Presley.
Wendell will be remembered for his gentle nature, steady presence, and the unconditional love he gave to those closest to him.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama from 1-2 p.m., followed by the graveside service at 2 p.m. at Southern Heritage Cemetery, Pelham.
Wendell will be deeply loved, dearly missed, forever cherished, and always remembered.
