
Bill graduated from Bennett High School in Buffalo, New York and attended The University of New York in Buffalo, New York. He was married to Joyce R. Updegraff on September, 5, 1954. He joined the Navy in 1949, and served on the CK Bronson. Upon discharge he was then employed as an Electrical Engineer by Niagara Mohawk Power and Light in Buffalo, New York, Niagara Power Project at Niagara Falls, and then accepted employment from Leeds and Northrup where he worked until retirement. He then moved to New Jersey and then Alabama.
Bill was a volunteer driver for seniors in Vestavia and Homewood. He also had a passion for computers and repairing jukeboxes.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce R. Updegraff; daughters, Donna U. (Jeffery) Weaver, Pamela U. Hillman; son, William R. Updegraff Jr.; grandchildren, Ryan, Justin, and Cami Weaver, Alex and Gracie Hillman. He is preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Wilson R. and Bonita R. Updegraff; sister, Joan U. Bleyle.
The visitation will be at Ridout's Southern heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama on Thursday, June 11, 2015, starting at 3 p.m. and followed by a graveside service at 4 p.m. at Southern Heritage Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations in Bill’s name can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
