Born and raised in Monroe, LA, Bill served 20 years in the U.S. Air Force in the field of intelligence. He played a major role during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962, later receiving the 1968 “Outstanding Airman of the Year" award.
Bill was predeceased by his parents Howard and Christine Young, sister Mary Jane White, and aunt Lois Terror.
Survivors include Bill’s wife Bernice; daughter Melody Drake (Bob); sons Bill Young, Jr (Tina) and Kenny Young (Carrie); step-daughter Sherry Shealy (Richard); step-son Mike Escue (Laura); grandchildren Kristi, Jeni, John and Kelly Drake; and nephews Chris Thorn and Larry White.
Celebration of Bill's promotion will be 2-3 p.m. on Sunday, October 30, 2016 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, AL, with a private service for family members to follow.
