Woodrow Sandlin

He was born on May 31, 1922. The 11th of the 12 children born to William Mack Sandlin and Aria Elizabeth McSwain Sandlin. He passed away, Saturday, September 27, 2014.

He served in the US Army Infantry during WWII. Participating in The Battle of the Bulge, Western Europe and the North African Campaign against Rommel.

He retired from US Steel where he worked for 35 years as an electrician.

On June 29th, 1944, he married Willadean Jones. Together, they had 2 children: son Charles Lynn and their daughter, Brenda Kay.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Lila Willadean Jones Sandlin (in 2000) and his son, Charles Lynn in 2010.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Hank Simpson, daughter-in-law, Jewell Sandlin, grand daughter, Kimberly Dawn Osborn Bradshaw, grandsons, Steven Wade Capps (Alyson) and Jason Lynn Capps (Donya), 11 Great Grandchildren, Andrew Bradshaw, who were the joy of his life, Destini Goodwin (TJ), Kena Bradshaw (Jeff), Brittany Tidwell, Austin Capps, Ashley Colon (Wade), Jordan Capps, Paiton Capps, Bailey Capps, Harleigh Colvin, great grandchildren, Keylee Bradshaw, Luke James and 4 generations of beloved nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at Southern Heritage Funeral Home with burial to follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
