Zenoba McCulley Lucas, age 94, of Hoover, Al, passed away on April 16, 2022. She was born in Masena, AL on August 5, 1927. Zenoba was married to James Howard Lucas on November 26, 1947, until his passing on April 22, 2020. Zenoba graduated from Alabama College (University of Montevallo) and worked in Administration for Alabama College, the University of Alabama in Birmingham, and The Church at Liberty Park. She was a lifelong member of that church.
Zenoba is survived by her sons David (Anne), Darell (Dale), Roger (Patty) and Scott, her grandchildren Brian (April), Lee (Serena), Matt (Christi), Heath (Veronica), Andrew (Amy), Christopher (Elora), and her great-grandchildren Claudia, Julia, Sarah, James, Avery, Julian and Libby.
She was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.
Zenoba was widely loved and respected by all who knew her as a true, faithful and humble disciple of Jesus Christ, being committed to both domestic and foreign mission work. She was the epitome of a wonderful homemaker. She was blessed with a servant’s heart, measuring her entire life by what she could do for others rather than for herself. She was deeply devoted to her Lord, her faithful husband, her loving family, and to her broader church family and friends to whom she regularly ministered through small acts of kindness and sweet words of support.
During her last years on earth, it was Zenoba’s turn to be served during an extended illness. Her ever-faithful husband, Howard, returned her devotion by serving as her doting and loving caretaker until his own death two years ago.
The Lucas family wishes to extend its collective heartfelt appreciation to Zenoba’s final caretakers - Jackie Rogers, Rosetta Howard and Lane Moss – who ensured that Zenoba continued to receive loving and nurturing care at home until her last moment here with us.
Visitation will be at The Church at Liberty Park, 12001 Liberty Parkway, Vestavia Hills, AL 35242, at 9:00 AM on Thursday, April 21, 2022, followed by a Celebration of Life at the church at 10:00 AM. Burial will be at the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, AL at 11:45 AM following the service. The cemetery’s address is 3133 Hwy 119, Montevallo, AL 35115.
