Mrs. Betty Jean Brown

CROPWELL - Nov. 5, 1927 – Jan. 11, 2017 Betty Jean Brown, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend and an inspiration to many, has lost her determined fight with cancer. She is preceded in death by her husband, Fred K. Brown.

She is survived by her sons, Jeff (Susan) Crain, George (Michelle) Crain, Kent (Barbara) Brown; daughter, Janice (Bob) Gillen; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Betty graduated from the University of Alabama and enjoyed a long career in medicine as a laboratory technician at several hospitals and clinics. The last several years before retirement, she managed the Endocrinology laboratory at UAB Hospital and Kirklin Clinic in Birmingham. She enjoyed dancing, playing bridge and was very active in her community, Pell City, Cropwell and the Logan Martin Lake area. Betty’s exuberant presence will be missed by all and not soon forgotten.

Funeral Service will be held Friday, January 13 at 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel of Kilgroe Funeral Home. A private family graveside service will follow. The family will receive friends Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
