

PELL CITY – Jessie Coleman, retired from the Navy in 1977 with the rank of Commander. He was a 1949 Graduate of Cragford High School and attended Harford College before enlisting in the Navy in 1951. He served as a personnel man for nine years before requesting to become an officer through the LDO program. He was commissioned an Ensign June 2, 1960. His awards and medals include Navy Commendation Medal with Combat ‘V’, Bronze Star, Joint Service Commendation Medal with Combat ‘V’, Revolutionary Development Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Navy Occupational Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Naval Surface Warfare Officers Insignia.
Mr. Coleman passed away Thursday, June 18, 2015. He is preceded in death by his wife, Jimmie Lou Coleman; daughter, Debra Diane Hoover; son, Verlon Keith Coleman; mother, Lois Macoy; and brothers, Billy & Johnny Macoy.
He is survived by two daughters, Mary Katherine Vermillion & Lou Ann Coleman Hanners; 6 grandchildren, Anne Elizabeth Vermillion, Leeanna Hoover Valentini, John Vermillion IV, Tyler Dee Hanners, Josie Katherine Hanners, Jessie Benjamin Hanners.
Memorial Service will be Saturday, June 20 at 3:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Kilgroe Funeral Home. Family visitation and reception will follow at the funeral home.
