I worked at Bham Heart Clinic in Pell City and there was a mean, old couple that came in and said some awful things to me, including "get a real job." I said, "Should I go back to being a combat medic?" They got quiet and were eventually called back for their appt. Joe Littlejohn witnessed the interaction. He'd known them 40 years and said they've always been that way. He comforted me and gave me hope that day (I was in a very bad place, mentally, and he could see that). He came in for a later appt and gave me a flower and a copy of the Desiderata poem. I still have it. He also gave my son a book. He was one of the very few loving men that I've had the relief of knowing. He gave me hope that this world is not all lost. I carry his love and light on my heart wherever I go, and I give it to others and lift them up, just as he did for me. I'll never forget you, Joe.

I first  met Joe when we were in the 2nd grade. We became good friends and that never changed. Through the years he often asked me if I remembered 2nd grade and of course I did. I am sorry for myself because I’ve lost my special friend. But I’m rejoicing as I picture him in a new body that can run, jump and play for the first time! No more horrible headaches; no pain of any kind! I look forward to seeing him again.

Joe has been a friend for 60+ years.  He often called me about banking or business matters and our last call was recent about some acreage he owned. Joe was a kind, intelligent and generous person. His vocabulary was way above average as was his intellect. I’ll miss this man but knowing he is physically well walking on a good hip and talking with Jesus makes his passing easier.     Joe Dorough

I am so sorry to hear of Joe’s passing. I’m so glad I had the opportunity to visit him and share communion from our church. He will be missed. God’s blessings for you all.

I’m so sorry about Joe. I knew him for many years. He was always a nice gentleman and well informed on matters of the day. My thoughts and prayers are with the Family and Friends during this time of mourning.

From a friend. I've known Joe since highschool.  All during my working career I saw Joe on a regular basis. I always enjoyed our conversations. He was a most intelligent and interesting person. He will be missed, but he is riding in the clouds now. Fly high, Joe, until we meet again.

In recent years, Joe was part of an august group of scholarly men & women who met weekly in the back room at Triple T for a long lunch and discussion of serious matters of local & national import.  There were several regulars, but anyone could drop in, be they prominent lawyers, public officials, movers, shakers, brick masons or auto mechanics.

I met Mr. Joe at Oak Circle, where my mom lived. I truly enjoyed our brief but ongoing conversations and found him to be a unique person.
