Joel is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Lisa Self; father, Charles Self; mother, Jane Wright; son, Nicholas Self; brother, Cameron Self. Joel is also survived by his best friend, Lucky Dog Barber and numerous family and friends.
Joel was a retired Birmingham Firefighter after 13 years of service and for the past 21 years he was the assistant track manager for Barber Motorsports. Joel was also a lifelong Auburn fan "War Eagle."
The family will have a Celebration of Life for Joel on June 11, 2026 at Barber Motorsports park at race control beginning at 5:00 PM. Following the service there will be spreading of his ashes at 5:30 PM.
