

R.B. was born in 1932 in Ragland, Alabama. He was a dedicated and hardworking man who spent his life working in various fields. He began his career as a pulp wood logger, took on various fabrication jobs, and worked as a painter and in construction. He retired after many years of service as an airplane maintenance engineer. His work ethic and dedication were admired by all who knew him.
R.B. was deeply committed to his faith and his community. He served as a Senior Deacon at Ruffner Valley Baptist Church in Irondale, Alabama, for many years. His leadership and dedication to the church were a testament to his strong beliefs and his desire to help others.
R.B. had a passion for collecting coins and was an enthusiastic civil war historian. He had a deep love for animals and enjoyed growing tomatoes and flowers. His hobbies and interests brought joy to his life and to those around him.
He is survived by his daughter, Tammy Childers (Victor), and his son, Andy St. John (Bonnie). He was a proud grandfather to Misti Draper (Jason), Marc St. John (Jenny), Matt St. John, and Jay St. John. He cherished his great-grandchildren, Jed Draper, Elijah St. John, LeAnna St. John, and Savannah St. John. R.B. is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss him dearly.
R.B. was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Helen Vivian St. John, his father, Earnest St. John, his mother, Etta Ruth Kay St. John, and his sisters, Louise Newton and Geneva Bradford.
Funeral services will be held on August 9, 2024, at Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City, Alabama. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM Central Time, followed by the funeral service at 2:00 PM Central Time. A private family burial will take place at Macedonia Baptist Church in Ragland, Alabama.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in R.B. St. John's name to the Humane Society, your local animal shelter, or Meals on Wheels (Birmingham, Alabama).
