

Funeral service for Rev. William D. Thompson, 85, of Pell City, will be Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at 12:00 noon at the Coosa Valley Church of God with Rev. Andy Lambert officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00am until the service time at the church. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery. Rev. Thompson died Saturday at The Village at Cook Springs.
Survivors include his two daughters, Donna Taylor and Tricia Wright (Andrew); four sisters, Lorene Henry, Louise Gerald, Martha Blake (Jim), and Pam Hays (Larry); seven grandchildren, Chris Taylor, Natalie Johnston (Sean), Jamison Taylor (Brandy), Marc Wright, Ryan Taylor (Christy), Katy Yarbrough (Matthew), and Jessica Barton (Chris); twelve great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and his beloved Pope family.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Ottis Mae Thompson; a daughter, Becky Barton; a brother, Claude Thompson; and a sister, Jan Lollis.
Rev. Thompson spent 45 years as an ordained minister and pastor in the Church of God (Cleveland TN). During his years as a pastor, he served churches in Alabama and Oklahoma. His ministry also included serving on various governing boards and as a licensed counselor. He retired in 1996, after which he moved to Pell City, where he enjoyed spending time with family, fishing, walking, and woodworking. He was very active at his home church, Coosa Valley Church of God.
