Bob was born in Syracuse, NY on November 7th, 1930, the son of the late Herbert and Mary (Newcomb) Allen. Bob was a graduate of Dundee High School and served in the US Navy aboard the USS Massey DD-778 during the Korean War from 1948 to 1952. He retired after 32 years of service from Corning Glass where he worked as a courier and security guard. He was a life time member of the Dundee American Legion, the Penn Yan VFW and the NRA. Bob lived life to the fullest; competing in marathons, canoe racing, umpiring softball, golfing and hunting at the little cabin in the woods. He was a passionate Coach K and Duke Blue Devil Basketball fan, civil war buff and watched every John Wayne movie ever made often quoting chapter and verse from the dialog. Bob was a talented writer crafting many poems and letters to and about his family and he thoroughly enjoyed antiquing and refinishing furniture. For Bob no matter what he did he always believed his greatest accomplishment was his wonderful life with Mary and his children. His wonderful sense of humor, kind heart and welcoming smile will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Mary L. (Woodard) Allen; his son, Jeffrey C. (Traci Rouche) Allen; daughter, Lisa (David) Mathis; grandchildren, Carrin Allen, Leshay Mathis, and Jared Allen; Courtney Rouche and Sophie; sister, Ruth Soules; Brother-in-law Robert (Sally Pritchard) Woodard, Sister-in-laws Barbra A. (James) Symonds, and Joyce L. Schroo. Numerous nieces, nephews, CGW friends, golfing buddies, and hunting cronies.
