Robert B. Heggie

Robert was born in North Adams, Massachusetts on May 31, 1933, the son of the late George R. and Beulah W. (Bates) Heggie. He received his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of Massachusetts and retired as a chemist from Ferro Corp. in Dresden, NY. He was a member of the Penn Yan United Methodist Church and was actively involved in Rotary, Boy Scouts, the Once Again Shoppe, and was a member of the Chemical Society of America. Robert loved the mountains and enjoyed photography, traveling, and hiking throughout America and many continents. He was proud of his Scottish Heritage and was a member of the Scottish-American Society. He was also a very avid Red Sox fan. In addition to his parents, Robert was predeceased by his brother, James A. Heggie.

Robert is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Engelke (Frey) Heggie; his children, Peter C. (Susan) Heggie of Weedsport and Barbara G. H. Stewart, Esq. of Concord, NH; his grandchildren, Madeleine and Alexander Stewart; sister, Janice (Donald Rupert) Dunn of Largo, FL; Russell (Cindy) Heggie of Penn Yan; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other relatives in Germany.

Friends and family may call from 9:30am to 11am on Friday, September 9, 2011 at the Penn Yan United Methodist Church, Main St., Penn Yan, where a memorial service celebrating his life will follow at 11am. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Robert’s memory to the Penn Yan United Methodist Church or to a charity of one’s choice.
