

Robert was born November 5, 1947 in Clifton Springs, NY to Robert F. and Ethel M. Clarke Sebring. He graduated high school from Phelps High School and served in the United States Army from 1968 to 1971, serving two tours in the Vietnam War with the 68th Assault Helicopters where he received several awards, including the Purple Heart. He later served in the Army National Guard.
He was always known to be supportive and caring to others, and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a member of the Penn Yan VFW and CNY Classic Cruisers, and he enjoyed camping and working on cars.
Surviving are his wife, Christine Trank Sebring; children, Heather (Danny) Sebring Knapp, Robert (Tammy) Sebring and Tiffany (James Shingler) Sebring; six granddaughters, Hallie and Madalyn Knapp, Alexandria Radka, Raynne and Paypay Shingler, and Kendall Sebring; foster brother, Dick Shoemaker; aunt, Alice Van Gorden; mother-in-law, Emilie Trank; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his step father, Kenneth E. Smith, and his father-in-law William J. “Red” Trank.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, April 23, 2012 from 4-6pm with a memorial service to follow at 6pm at Townsend-Wood Funeral Chapel, 201 E. Elm Street, Penn Yan, NY 14527, with Rev. John Bush officiating. Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery, Dundee on Tuesday, April 24th at 10am.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mr. Sebring’s name may be made to Penn Yan VFW Post 745, 200 E. Elm Street, Penn Yan, NY 14527 or the Penn Yan American Legion, 2001 Himrod Road, Penn Yan, NY 14527.
