
Jane was born in the Town of Milo on January 29th, 1930, the daughter of the late William and Helen Nielsen. Having lived in the Penn Yan Area her entire life she graduated from Penn Yan Academy in 1946. She married George B. Jensen in 1947 and started their family shortly after. Jane was fortunate not to have to work away from home until her children were grown. She was also court clerk for her husband George at the Town of Jerusalem. She then worked at John Gibbon Insurance, Stork Insurance, and Dr. Philips W. Brooks. Jane was a charter member of the Finger Lakes Two Cylinder Club and was the secretary for the building committee at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Penn Yan. Jane was famous for her Danish pastries and was often referred to as the ‘Cookie Lady’.
Jane is survived by her son, John (Cheryl) Jensen of Geneva, daughter, Janet Hayton (Dennis Zgardzinski) of Penn Yan; grandchildren, Laurie Mitchell, Bryan Jensen, Christy (Jason) Richards, Eric (Shannon) Jensen, and Stephanie (Charles) Rudat; great grandchildren, Jensen and Charlotte Rudat, Kyle and Matthew Richards, and Logan and Bryce Jensen; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and hundreds of friends.
In addition to her parents, Jane was predeceased by her husband, George B. Jensen on September 28th, 2004; and her son, James Jensen on February 5th, 1993.
Friends and family may call from 7to 9pm on Friday, March 25th, 2016 at the Townsend Wood Funeral Chapel, 201 E. Elm St., Penn Yan, NY 14527. Her funeral will be held at 11am on Saturday, March 26th at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Hamilton St., Penn Yan. Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Penn Yan.
